  • The Classen TSS-20 turf overseeder is portable, convenient, and self-propelled. This overseeder has the seed box located in front of the flails so the blade action can help "cut" seed into the soil thereby improving the soil-to-seed contact and germination rate. This configuration also requires less seed than do other machines because the seed is dropped into the soil, not the thatch.
  • Overseeder Tips:
  • For best result, we recommend overseeding in two applications, with the second application made at a 45-degree angle to the first. You'll notice a distinct crosshatch pattern in the effected soil as the blade reel cuts precisely aligned rows allowing the seed to penetrate into the topsoil.
  • Overseeding is most successful following aeration or de-thatching, or both as these processes help to create seed-to-soil contact. Overseed when conditions are good for germination and growth.
  • When is the best time of year to over-seed?
  • Typically, Spring or Fall.
  • Preparation: Let s get ready to over-seed.
  • Mow shorter-than-usual so the grass won't be overly thick and tangled for the Overseeder machine.
  • If your lawn is really dry, we recommend spending a day or two watering it very heavily to soften up that first inch of topsoil. An over seeding machine is basically a "verti-cutter" with a hopper on it. These vertical cutting blades will "fight" you less if they can more easily cut grooves into your lawn s surface.
